In order to make a relevant and useful contents page for both magazine covers I have produced, I will need to research other magazines contents pages, such as vogue. On this blog I have written down all of my research and findings so that you can see how I have come to a final decision on what template and style I shall be using.
Vogue

Vogue

In the Vogue contents page they have used the large masthead which overlaps the image to make it more prominent on the page and remind the viewer that they're reading a fashion magazine. Overlapping that you have the black, juxtaposing month to remind the reader what issue they have. They have then placed a small image of model just underneath the title so that the viewer can see the whole image and her and the fashion are not blocked by any writing, this draws attention to the image and the fashion. Around that you have the black writing with the page numbers describing what each page of the magazine has on it to allow readers to navigate the magazine quickly and effectively. To make it even easier for the reader to navigate, they have added multiple sections with different titles so that the reader can quickly choose what they are interested in and navigate to it. It has a very simplistic look to it with very little colour to make it look very sophisticated and draws a mature audience.
Glamour

This Glamour contents page is very different from the previous Vogue contents page because this has swapped the colours around from a coloured image and mostly b&w text to and b&w image with colourful text. They have used a colourful title to draw attention to it and then used a b&w image to juxtapose this which makes the image stand out aswell. They have also used colour for each page number which makes it stand out and allows the reader to easily see each individual page number and navigate the magazine effectively. Unlike Vogue they have only split the pages into two groups, 'on the cover' and 'featuring...', this allows the viewer to quickly navigate to what they had seen on the front cover. Similarly to Vogue they have used a smaller image so that the model and fashion is prominent on the page and not overlapped by anything, they have also included the monthly issue to remind the reader which issue they are currently reading.
I like both contents pages due to there use of smaller images and colours to make it be more prominent on the page. Both have used different colour techniques which I like but neither of them are perfect so I shall be combining both the vogue contents and glamour contents to design a template for my contents pages. I shall be using a small image like in both of the above covers and I shall also be putting the month in the same place as these because its clear that it's a common position across contents pages. I will also be putting the title of my magazine at the top of the page but it will be much more bold, as seen in my finished front covers, and will have two colours. I shall be taking the colour aspect of the page numbers from the glamour magazine to use in mine and the coloured image aspect from vogue contents page, this makes it become more prominent and allows the user easier access. From the glamour magazine I shall also be taking the 'on the cover' aspect as I think that this enables the viewer to navigate straight way to what they have seen on the front cover.

I designed this template using photoshop as to plan a potential contents page based on the two contents pages I had researched above. I have taken individual parts of both vogue and glamor to make what I think is the best contents page possible in terms of ease of use and target audience. In this template the reds represent a colour and the black shall just be black. The title will be two colours, black and another colour so that it is similar to my mastheads on the front covers. There will be a coloured image with a black outline to make it more prominent. The month will be a italicised, serif font to increase the feel of maturity for the reader. There will be two sections, one for the front cover and one for everything else that's inside. Each page number will be the same colour as the title to create a common colour scheme throughout the image and to make it easier for the reader to navigate.
